I am also addicted to pyrex. While at an auction I was digging through box lots and found under some old shoe ploish and a heating pad sone kitchen ware in an old silverware sorter. As I got to the bottom of the box I realized that there were two trays. The bottom tray was almost a whole set of twinstar. I tried ro hid my expression and recover the box. Until the auction opened I would panic whenever some one would even look at the box. 2 hrs later I bid and wone the box for 4 dollars. I loved ot too much to put in the camper and now its my dailly set. I need a few more dinner forks as I have a large family. I was excited to read this as I didnt know the history, only that I love the set.Dawnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11567334838071204477noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8978900377995001642.post-51733906867383920312016-03-27T17:54:03.021-07:002016-03-27T17:54:03.021-07:00I live in Kentucky and we just received 2 and a ha...I live in Kentucky and we just received 2 and a half full sets of these from a deceased family member thank you for being informative not trying to sell them just thought it was pretty awesomeAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8978900377995001642.post-51417675141802997752015-10-19T05:23:24.343-07:002015-10-19T05:23:24.343-07:00My husband and I, both 1959 models, just started o...My husband and I, both 1959 models, just started outfitting a 1959 Heilite single wheel tent trailer that we spent the last year rebuilding from the ground up. We decided to get a set of thrift store flatware for it. I found some pieces that had little atomic-looking stars, and thought they looked kind of "50s-ish" so I bought them. A bit of research on some flatware replacement sites identified the pattern as Twin Star, which apparently was also released in 1959 from what I can find online. Now we're obsessed with outfitting the trailer in stuff that was made in 1959, I absolutely have to find 3 more teaspoons (in thrift stores--I won't pay online prices) to complete the small set for the trailer, and I'm considering starting to collect a whole set of Twin Star for use in our house as well. It's addictive! :)FeatheredGemshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14475300246665081033noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8978900377995001642.post-76348657936766539202015-07-24T15:42:35.147-07:002015-07-24T15:42:35.147-07:00My granddaughter is getting married and I took of ...My granddaughter is getting married and I took of the salad forks that belonged to my Mother and have them engraved with the date and I Do on one and Me too on the other. The museum has an advertising section and featured the Twin Star flatware. If you want to do some more research the museum may have more information for you. I was so taken by the history of the Oneida giveaway with purchase and the great design I started to look for a set for my daughter who is now living in Minneapolis. I suspect the design has something to do with the largest flour mill being located in Minneapolis...
Anyway, just wanted to share my findings and say thanks for sharing your story - I continue to the hunt for pieces!
LibbeyAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8978900377995001642.post-62158123315683443142014-08-26T18:03:48.391-07:002014-08-26T18:03:48.391-07:00What a beautiful memory! We hit it off so well that for over 10 years we spent Friday nights getting together playing games and alternating who brought dessert and sometimes dinner. They treated my kids like their grandchildren, still do. She had the Twin Star Pattern. I don't know why but it liked it. Then I discovered the name and that it came out the year I was born. When she moved and downsize she gave me some of the pieces. I was about to replace my own set of flatware after 20+ years of marriage and our eclectic and mismatched set that my kids helped along by using and leaving some pieces and bringing home others. I looked on ebay and found a gal selling her mother's set who was glad that someone would use it everyday and like it as much as her mom did. Seeing it reminds me of so many good memories with my old neighbors, it reminds me to call them as well, and I have been able to enjoy it's history as well.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8978900377995001642.post-29865420019473137242014-08-12T18:29:10.468-07:002014-08-12T18:29:10.468-07:00I'm so glad to hear that you are using a set o...I'm so glad to hear that you are using a set of Twin Star that has been passed down! I just started collecting it a couple of years ago. When my mom passed away, I saw she had been using the remnants of her Twin Star as "cooking forks" etc. and setting the table with a newer set that my sister and I had started her on. I found the beginnings of my Twin Star set in the basement of an estate sale in an old cardboard box, all for $5.00. At the time I didn't know the name or when it was from but I love Vintage, 1950's, red wooden handled kitchen tools, water dippers and rolling pins...so I scooped it up. For the last 8 years I have sifted through every dusty old box at garage sales, estate sales and second hand stores. I only buy things I can use everyday and this fit right in. I've been wondering for a long time and I have tried to look up the information myself and tonight I found you and your story with the history! Since it was one coupon per household, all my mom's friends and neighbors helped me in collecting my sets of Twin Star and My Rose. I added all the extra pieces with the BC coupons found on cereal, cake mixes, flour, etc. My mom got the Chatelaine pattern I'm thinking a bit later, not sure. I'm still using Twin Star every meal. The My Rose is put away, and I have chosen Louisiana, a more traditional pattern "for company." Oneida offered sample teaspoons back in the 60's and 70's for I'm thinking 25 cents each, a limit of 4 each coupon, also found in ladies magazines. I filled an antique spooner with sample spoons that still sits on my kitchen counter and used constantly. I have always wished I could add to those sample spoons, which has made interesting conversation for friends who stop by for tea.
